175 more Jobs coming to Austin.

Progressive Group of Insurance Companies (NYSE: PGR) is expanding its Austin contact center by 175 workers this winter.

The fourth largest auto carrier in the U.S. will hire the new employees beginning Jan. 31, 2011. The company offers flexible schedules, competitive pay (between $13-$15, according to its website), health, dental, vision, 401K and an on-site fitness center, among other perks, according to a press release Tuesday.

The phone representatives will sell policies, answer customer questions, or help customers file claims after car accidents. Some of the open positions are for bilingual reps fluent in both English and Spanish. The jobs require a minimum of two years’ post secondary education or two years’ work experience in a customer service environment.

Progressive, an Austin Business Journal best places to work winner, has expanded in Texas several times in recent years. In 2007, it hired 60 more people at its 220,000-square-foot campus in south Austin and 200 statewide.

Mayfield Village, Ohio-based Progressive, founded in 1937, provides car insurance for passenger and commercial vehicles, motorcycles and other vehicles. It employs more than 2,000 people in Texas.
